Conceptual Photography

Sun Apr 15, 2007, 10:18 AM
I've been noticing a trend with the majority of photographs posted in the "Conceptual Photography" section here at DeviantART. It seems that there are many concepts floating around out there, but nobody will ever know what they are because nobody elaborates even the slightest bit. It's a shame really, to have a vision of an idea, but no idea about the vision. Someone photographed that kitten, that tree, that nude woman and then posted it as if they claim it is conceptual in nature, but then refrain from sharing with us that concept.

I know it can be cumbersome to write about each and every little photograph we post, and I certainly can understand why it isn't as needed in other sections, but conceptual photography more than often needs something to go with it for it to be what it claims to be. I know my images could have deeper explanations, but at least I don't leave viewers with nothing to go on.

So I challenge all you conceptual photographers out there to shock your viewers with your mind as much as you do with your eye. Are you up for the challenge?

I just wanted to let you know that I really like your work. So in my most recent journal I gave you a feature. I hope you are flattered but if you want me to take your work down I will just ask. Keep up the good work.

I love all these pieces for your thesis! It's a really neat concept and the perspectitive gives each shot almost a surreal look. They remind of me of something...I'm just not sure what yet.
Either way, great job.

Thank you. It is hard coming up with something that is entirely original. I know that photographs have been taken from the underneath perspective several times before, but I feel that the combination of perspective, connection, and theme (film) is pretty original. I also know that as soon as I say that, someone will point out another artist that has done it before. heheh...

Anyways...

Thanks again!

Ohhh forget what someone will point out, he's just being a downer! Best of luck.
